Consistency in dog training is crucial because dogs thrive on routine and predictability. When you establish consistent training habits, your dog will know what to expect, which will make them feel secure, confident, and obedient. Often we’ll follow a training plan, we see quick changes to the dogs behaviour and the training falls away, as does the desired behaviour because we stopped.

Here are some reasons why consistency is crucial in dog training:

It builds trust and confidence between you and your dog. When you are consistent with your commands, cues and rewards, your dog learns to trust your guidance and feels secure in your presence. This trust and confidence will help your dog to obey your commands and become a well-behaved pet.

It helps your dog develop good habits. When you consistently reward your dog for good behaviour, they learn what is expected of them and are more likely to repeat that behaviour. Consistency also helps you to correct bad behaviour promptly and effectively, which can prevent those behaviours from becoming ingrained habits.

It helps with recall and focus training; this is essential for dog owners because it helps keep dogs safe and under control. Consistent focus and recall training teaches your dog to come when called, which is crucial in situations where your dog's safety is at risk. When you are consistent with your focus and recall training, your dog will know what is expected of them, and they will be more likely to come when called.

Communication between you and your dog will improve too as a result. Dogs can’t understand human language, so they rely on our body language and tone of voice to interpret our commands. When you are consistent in your body language and tone of voice, your dog will learn to understand your commands better, which will improve communication between you and your doggo.

Training becomes easier for both you and your dog. When you establish consistent training routines, your dog will know what to expect, and training will become more comfortable and more effective. As a result, you will spend less time pulling your hair out reacting to your dog’s bad behaviour and more time enjoying your loyal companion.

So, in short, consistency is essential in dog training. It helps to build trust and confidence between you and your dog, develop good habits, improve communication, and make training easier.

Remember to be patient, calm and consistent in your training efforts, and your dog will reward you with their obedience, trust, and love.
